The Challenge

This organisation had undergone a major outsourcing transition some years previously and over time found that architecture management processes had become moribund. Dependency upon the outsourcer allowed internal understanding of systems and supporting infrastructure assets to wane and hence they lacked the knowledgebase necessary to inform effective strategic IT investment and architectural governance. This client sought to re-establish Enterprise Architecture capability from the ground up in order to support-effective IT investment and architecture control over major implementation programs.

Our Solution

We conducted an Enterprise Architecture and Information Technology maturity and effectiveness assessment, then provided recommendations for a supporting EA operating model. The recommended model emphasised a pragmatic approach to architecture management and focussed on the near term operating needs of the organisation, taking into account current investment programs, near term risks and implications. We then became a partner in implementing the recommended EA operating model, providing an interim EA team to jump start the client’s architecture practice, focussing on the rapid delivery of baseline artefacts and repository and supporting processes for investment and architectural governance.

Their Outcome

This major energy company now has strong control over their asset’s lifecycle and entrenched processes for managing strategic decisions over investment and architecture and is no longer dependent upon the outsource service provider as the source of knowledge over system lifecycle and dependency.
