The Challenge

Like many large organisations our client required more investment in their enterprise technology infrastructure architecture. Specifically our client was looking to define standards for technology use in the delivery of systems solutions and to publish a roadmap to communicate the technology asset lifecycle. As in many organisations, the technology infrastructure investment agenda was usually driven bottom up through operations and consequently would benefit from better linkage to the strategies and objectives of the business and the application and information architecture roadmaps it must inherently support.

Our Solution

We ran a fast start exercise to deliver a technology infrastructure architecture and roadmap in under eight weeks. Leading internally appointed technology domain owners, we built a technology reference model and fully populated the current state inventory of assets across each domain. Workshopping with domain experts and stakeholders we established asset lifecycle rules and identified required investment programs to ensure that both service and operational requirements of the platforms were met.

Their Outcome

Our client was able to publish to all IT stakeholders a statement of the endorsed technology usage policy and lifecycle availability. In addition our client had established a concise investment roadmap for technical infrastructure that demonstrated linkage of the infrastructure blueprints to the business strategies and application roadmaps. Most importantly our client was left with a sustainable process by which the technology architecture policies and roadmap would be efficiently maintained over time.
