The Challenge

This organisation had grown substantially through acquisition. With an IT systems inventory comprising of various organically developed systems inherited from the acquired organisations, this company was embarking on a major systems refresh program in order to streamline process improvement and product delivery and establish a platform that would support the next wave of major expansion initiatives. This client sought to ensure that the systems refresh strategy was supported by a sound understanding of the current systems capabilities and an agreed target systems architecture.

Our Solution

We applied strong architectural process in delivering a strategic architecture roadmap for this organisation. In the process we defined a business reference model to focus the business on the required strategic capabilities of the organisation; reviewed and mapped existing systems assets for each operating unit and identified those systems that would be taken forward. We then defined the target architectural state, the roadmap of investments and interim architectural stage points that would be required to achieve the desired transformation end state.

Their Outcome

Our client was able to justify the case for transformation by clearly articulating to the board the required business capabilities and the capability gaps of the current systems inventory, the required future state architecture to support the required business capabilities and the investment roadmap required to get there. The investment roadmap was endorsed by the board as the precursor to commencing the IT transformation program.
